HOW OFTEN CAN I TAKE THIS COURSE?

The course may be taken once every 3 years for insurance reduction, or once every 18 months for removal of eligible points from your driving record.

HOW OFTEN CAN I TAKE THIS COURSE?

You may take this course once every 5 years to remove 2 points from your driving record. You may take it once every 3 years to maintain your insurance discount.

CAN I WORK AT MY OWN PACE?

Yes. We've made the course flexible, and have given you the ability to work at your own pace on your own schedule. You can log on and off the program any time you would like and you can take as much time as you need to read the course materials and proceed at a pace that works for you. WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE?

After you complete the course your certificate will be available for download inside your account. If needed, we can mail you a hard copy for $9.95 and you should receive the certificate within 3-5 business days.

HOW DO I GET MY INSURANCE DISCOUNT? 

After you complete the course, your certificate will be available for download inside your account. You will be responsible for reporting your completion to your insurance company to receive the state-mandated 10% discount for 3 years.  Don't forget, you can take this course every 3 years to keep you to 10% discount.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE 4-HOUR DRUG & ALCOHOL COURSE? 

All new drivers in the State of Florida must complete the 4-Hour Drug & Alcohol Course in order to apply for the Florida learners permit or license.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO TAKE THIS COURSE? 

You can take the drug and alcohol course after your 14th birthday, but you must be at least 15 to apply for your Class E Learner’s License (restricted license).  

DOES IT STILL TAKE 4 HOURS IF I TAKE THE COURSE ONLINE?

Yes, the internet course will take 4 hours. All first-time driver courses online are required to be 4 hours by the Florida Department of Highway Safety Motor Vehicles. The course has 4 chapters that each last 60 minutes. 

CAN I WORK AT MY OWN PACE? 

Yes. We've made the course flexible and have given you the ability to work at your own pace on your own schedule. You can log on and off the program any time you would like and you can take as much time as you need to read the course materials and proceed at a pace that works for you. The course is available 24/7. 

DOES THIS COURSE HAVE A FINAL EXAM?

Yes. At the end of the course, you will take a 40-question exam and you must score an 80% or higher. You can take as much time as you need on the exam, and if you do not pass, you can re-take the exam at no charge.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I FINISH? 

Give yourself a pat on the back and get ready to take your picture! When you pass the final exam, your certificate will be reported electronically to the DMV office, so you do not need to worry about a certificate or paperwork from us.

DO I HAVE TO NOTIFY THE COURT BEFORE TAKING THIS COURSE?

Yes. If you wish to go to traffic school for a Florida ticket, you must elect to attend a basic driver improvement course with the court when you pay your fine. By electing to attend a driver improvement course, you will receive a 18% discount off the fine and the points from the ticket will not be assessed to your license, as long as you complete the course. 

CAN I WORK AT MY OWN PACE?

Yes! We've made the course flexible and have given you the ability to work at your own pace on your own schedule. There are timers in each chapter to ensure that each chapter is at least 50 minutes, you can take as much time as you need to read the course materials and proceed at a pace that works for you. You can log on and off as needed and your progress will be saved. The course is available 24/7. 

IS THERE A FINAL EXAM?

No, the course does not have a final exam.

DO YOU NOTIFY THE FLORIDA DHSMV?

Yes. We electronically report your completion to the Florida DHSMV. You can visit the DHSMV Traffic School Completion Check page to make sure your completion was reported.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE? 

As soon as you complete the course, your certificate will be available for download inside your account. If you chose to have your certificate sent via Regular Mail, we will send your certificate the same business day (if you complete before 2 pm EST) and it should only take 3-5 business days. 

SHOULD I SEND THE CERTIFICATE TO THE CLERKS OF COURT?

Yes. It is your responsibility to send your certificate to the same County you received your ticket in.

HOW OFTEN CAN I TAKE THIS COURSE?

You can elect to attend a FLHSMV-approved basic driver improvement school once every 12 months or a total of 5 times within your lifetime.

WHY WOULD I TAKE THE AGGRESSIVE DRIVER COURSE? 

• You received Citations for Street or Drag Racing
• You were court Ordered as part of a sentencing judgment
• You have had multiple speeding violations in a short period of time
• You have had multiple traffic offenses where the driver shows signs of aggressive driving
•  This course is a pre-trial requirement, probation officer and/or judge entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement.

The course is 12-hours.  You can work at your own pace and log on and off the program anytime.  The course cannot be completed in less than 12 hours since the program has a timer built into each chapter.  You will be required to take a mandatory 24-Hour break after you complete Day 1.   This mandatory 24-hour break is required by the DHSMV.

After you complete the course your certificate will be sent via the delivery method you selected when you registered for the course. If you chose Regular Mail, we will send your certificate the same business day (if you complete before 2pm EST) and it should only take 3-5 business days.  If you chose digital download, your certificate will be available for immediate download after you complete the course!

DO YOU ACCEPT COURT WAIVERS/FEE REDUCTIONS (INDIGENT STATUS)?

American Safety Institute honors all court-approved indigence waivers/reductions. You must send a copy of your court document showing that the court waived/reduced the fees for the Co-Parenting Component of your divorce or a copy of your indigent status paperwork. WHO NEEDS TO TAKE THIS COURSE?

Any parent that has filed for divorce in the State of Florida that has minor children under the age of 18 years of age.

IS THIS COURSE STATE APPROVED? 

The American Safety Institute’s course is approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

The course is 4 hours as required by the Florida Department of Children and Familes. You cannot complete the course in any less than 4 hours as the program has a timer built into each chapter.

IS THERE A TEST AT THE END OF THE COURSE? 

Yes.  There is a 20 question final exam at the end of the course. The quizzes after each chapter are for practice.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE PARENTING COURSE WITH THE OTHER PARENT?

In a word, "no." The Court does not require nor expect parents to attend the court-approved parenting course together. Further, if there is a history of domestic violence between the parents, the court may, without request from either parent, actually prohibit the parenting course from being taken together.

IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON ME COMPLETING THE COURSE?

In a word, "yes." For dissolution of marriage actions, unless completion of the course is excused by the court, the petitioner must complete the course within 45 days after filing the petition, and the other parent must complete the course within 45 days after service of the petition. For paternity actions, unless completion is excused by the court, the petitioner must complete the course within 45 days after filing the petition, and the other parent must complete the course within 45 days after an acknowledgment of paternity by that parent, an adjudication of paternity of that parent, or an order granting time-sharing to or support from that parent.

Florida law mandates that all parties required to complete a parenting course shall begin the course as expeditiously as possible. No doubt, parents who are separating or divorcing are more likely to receive maximum benefit from a program if they attend such program at the earliest stages, before extensive litigation occurs and adversarial positions are assumed or intensified.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY CERTIFICATE?

Once you complete your course and receive your certificate of completion you will send your certificate to your attorney or the Judge that is assigned to your case. 

We do NOT send your certificate on your behalf. We are not responsible for any fees, penalties, or other actions if you fail to mail or drop off your certificate of completion to the Clerk of Court.
